I had researched reference pictures to help me modify my character's look. The pictures i researched were nerd's and doctor's outfits. It helped me paint a picture of what my character's personalities are.

The cartoon picture from the left is one of the character's from the hit TV series Dexter's laboratory.

I chose this as a reference for the simple fact that the drawing looks really simplified and so i chose it.

So after observing the references i found, i began to construct this new nerdy character of mine little by little. I decided to make a transition from the influence of Fat-albert to a nerdy character. I have never done a character like this before, and it seems to fume my excitement and so that is the reason behind this sudden change of character look.

Synopsis

NAME: Greedy

AGE: 13

Profile: A 13 year old nerd who likes the visual appearance of a female. Unlike most nerds, Greedy seeks the knowledge of how to date multiple females at the same time. The only problem is, he finds it hard to get a positive responds from a girl when he tries to ask her out. He's done everything from going on a - (how to chat up a girl course) from the website, www.let-me-show-you-how.com.

And also, reading books, tuning in to Oprah and last but not least, watching Dawson's creek. You'd think someone that is able to solve quadratics equations and has gotten an A in Rocket science could without a doubt solve a problem like this. One thing what Greedy has to understand is that, girls aren't numbers that accumulates or equate by mathematical thinking. Only time will tell, if Greedy figures out what i have just wrote before he approaches a girl in a way he will quickly regret which then it'll be to late to fix the mess what could potentially be his worst fear come true!…. Having his heart broken and turning gay!

In this stage, i proceeded to draw head shapes in different positions. I wanted to get use to drawing head positions. So i began drawing them and look what we have.

Next step was to play around with the character by drawing face expressions to see how far and what i could actually do with it. I call this stage, the muck about point. Sooner after that, i decided to scrap this character and made a decision to go with a completely different new look. Why? I just decided to draw in a different direction because i've drawn character's like this a lot of times and if i decided to carry on and keep this character, I wouldn't be pushing myself now would i? So that was the outcome of that story now moving onto more developments.

I had stumbled upon this image of samurai hats and i wondered if i should incorporate that within my characters accessories. I still haven't come to a conclusion on that topic but what i can say at this point is that, i really like the visual look of a samurai hat but i'm not quite sure if there is a reason to have it match the character I'm beginning to come up with. So for now, I'm gonna have to leave this item out.

Because i had a keen interest in Fat-Albert, the cartoon version and also the movie version, it defiantly sparked an interest which is why it was a source of ideas for my earlier character head design.
This was the first character image that had first presented itself within my thoughts. I just had to place this mental image that was within my imagination on paper. I weren't quite sure about my character's history of background, so i just decided to draw images to come to a conclusion of what kind of perception i'd get from viewing how my character is portrayed visually. From there on in, i can develop a story and a short profile from what i see on paper of my character. But then again, this was a first attempt to create my own character so i'll call this a starting point of my development process. Click on the image to get a better view of my first head design.
